- Temperatura
- Humedad
- Altura de ola
Why?
Isobars join points of equal atmospheric pressure (in hPa or mb), usually 4 mb apart. Their pattern reveals the pressure centres (highs and lows) and the strength of the wind.

Una borrasca (baja presión) suele asociarse a:
- Tiempo inestable, nuboso y con viento Correct answer
- Tiempo seco y estable
- Ausencia total de viento
- Cielos siempre despejados
Why?
A low (B, depression or cyclone) is an area of low pressure associated with unstable, cloudy, rainy and windy weather. It is usually mobile and moves from west to east. Its opposite is the anticyclone.

Why?
In the northern hemisphere, wind circulates around a low anticlockwise and rising (inward). Around a high it circulates clockwise and descending. In the southern hemisphere, the reverse.

- Viento flojo o calma
- Ausencia de presión
- Niebla segura
Why?
The closer the isobars, the steeper the pressure gradient and the stronger the wind. Widely spaced isobars indicate gentle pressure changes and light winds.

- Izquierda (y algo hacia delante) Correct answer
- Derecha
- Espalda
- Frente exacto
Why?
Buys-Ballot's law (northern hemisphere): with your back to the wind, low pressure lies to your left (and slightly forward due to friction) and high pressure to your right. It locates the pressure centres without a map. In the southern hemisphere it is reversed.

Why?
The sea breeze (virazón) occurs by day: land heats faster than the sea, the land air rises and creates a low that draws in air from the sea. It therefore blows from sea to land. At night the opposite happens (land breeze).

Why?
In a cold front, the colder (denser) air advances and pushes under the warm air, forcing it to rise sharply; it produces towering clouds and showers. In a warm front, the warm air advances over the cold, with gentler, more widespread rain.

Why?
An occluded front forms when the faster-moving cold front catches up with the warm front ahead; the warm air is lifted and separated from the ground. It is typical of the mature stage of a depression.

Why?
The cold front usually moves faster than the warm front; that is why, when both exist, the cold one eventually overtakes the warm one and an occlusion forms. After a cold front passes, pressure rises and the weather tends to improve.

Why?
Wind is named for the direction it comes from: a NW wind comes from the northwest and blows toward the southeast. (Currents, by contrast, are named for the direction toward which they flow.)

Why?
The Beaufort scale measures wind force, from 0 (calm) to 12 (hurricane), based on its effects on the sea and on land. For the state of the sea, the Douglas scale is used.

Why?
Wind sea is the wave field generated by the wind blowing at that time and place; it is short and confused. Swell (mar de fondo) is the wave field that persists after the wind drops or arrives propagating from a distant area; it is long and regular, and can foreshadow heavy weather.

La presión atmosférica se mide habitualmente en:
- Hectopascales (hPa) o milibares (mb) Correct answer
- Nudos
- Grados centígrados
- Metros
Why?
Atmospheric pressure is measured in hectopascals (hPa) or millibars (mb), equivalent units (1 hPa = 1 mb). The reference value at sea level is 1013 mb: above it, highs predominate; below it, lows.

- Nieblas Correct answer
- Temporales con olas enormes
- Frentes fríos sucesivos
- Trombas marinas continuas
Why?
Stationary highs, with their descending, stable air and light winds, favour fog formation (radiation fog at night, or advection of moist air over colder water). Fine anticyclonic weather therefore does not rule out visibility problems.
